Folks, Carbs Are Sugar!
A year ago, I could not have told you that carbohydrates (carbs) are SUGAR! Apparently, this is not a secret. I have found many people that actually know this. But, I have found that many, like me, did not know this very important piece of information. Sure, we could describe the types of food that are carbs like bread, rice, and pasta. We could even tell you about some foods that are complex and simple carbohydrates. But what we really didn't understand is this: carbohydrates are long strings of molecules of SUGAR.
When you Google: What are carbs? In the images section, you get all kinds of samples of food that have carbs. But the word "sugar" is not hardly to be found. You can even find lots of information on good carbs and bad carbs. Which is a lot of nonsense, by the way.
So why is it important to know about carbs. We all know there are three nutrients on food labels. There are carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. What is important is how these nutrients effect our fat storage hormone - insulin. Fat raises blood sugars and insulin minimally. Proteins are broken into amino acids and raises insulin levels, but raises blood sugars minimally. Carbohydrates, especially refined ones, raise blood sugar more than other foods. The rise in blood sugar stimulates insulin release.
Insulin is the main regulator of energy metabolism. It, again, is our fat storage hormone. If you want to get thin, or stay thin, you have to understand how to these nutrients (foods) effect your insulin. It is that simple. How can this be done? Low Carb High Fat and Intermittent Fasting. That is how! Oh, by the way, it is so much easier to do than you would ever imagine!
